NO SCHOOL Monday, February 15, in observance of Presidents' Day. This is a nice, long weekend to perhaps work on your kindergartener's living things family project, assigned this last week!
Thursday, February 18: Come help us make and bake doggie treats for our field trip to the Oregon Humane Society. Email me if you are willing to help in the afternoon.
Riggs:
We will continue to work on the process of studying words as Riggs scholars, as well as the process for doing spelling homework. There are more phonograms to study as well, so keep on your kindergartener with that homework as well!
Saxon 1 Math:

Core Knowledge:
We will continue our study of living things, learning more about how humans take care of animals.
Life skills and social skills:
We will keep working on finding ways to fill each others' buckets as well as finding ways to speak up for ourselves and others.
Week in review:
Riggs:
We started the formal study of spelling words, using our Riggs Notebooks, and how to do Riggs spelling homework. I will try to put up a separate blog post about all of this new information this weekend.
Saxon 1 Math:
Using linking cubes as a nonstandard unit of measurement, length, width, estimation, prediction; using pattern blocks to cover a shape, using different numbers/combinations of pattern blocks to cover the same shape; pairs.

Core Knowledge:
Habitats: what are they, what kinds of animals live in what kinds of habitats, what is in a habitat to support life, etc. Group work! How to work in a small group, how to share ideas and work together.
Your kindergartener should be able to tell you about their habitat: what living things (animals AND plants) can be found there, where plants get their energy, which animals are carnivores, which are herbivores, and which might be omnivores. These are on display in the hallway. If you get a chance, be sure to find some of the living things hidden behind little flaps!
