In class, second graders worked in groups to creatively use crafty materials to show their understanding of the frog life cycle. A lot of our projects help second graders practice divergent thinking, collaborative work, listening and speaking, and time management. Ask your second grader to explain their group's diagram!
We had Very Important Persons visit us Thursday morning! For our special time, we read a silly book, and then tried our hands at a traditional Japanese art form: Gyotaku, or fish prints. This tied in with our cycles in nature and the life cycle of the salmon/fish. Grandparents and other VIPs also got to experience first hand sensory-immersion learning, as they smelled, touched, and created with dead fish! We use all of our senses to learn at Cascade Heights! They were all good sports, and the second graders were so happy to host.
