Riggs: This week we've learned to spell the words: and, go, at, on, is2, sh e, can and see. While helping your children learn to spell these words do stress the importance of the markings. The children should be saying them while writing them. There is a 2 above the s in is2 because the s (s,z) says the second sound. Pronounced iz, not is. Sh of sh e is underlined because sh is a multi letter phonogram. The e is underlined because it says it's name.
Saxon Math: We've been learning how to add 2 digit numbers without re-grouping and doubles plus 1 facts. For something fun this weekend if you have dimes and pennies laying around you can open up your own store where the children pick items to sell. They pick out 2 to buy and make the amount for the first item and make the amount for the second item then count it all up.
Core Knowledge: We have been learning about dental health because February is Children's Dental Health Month. The children learned how many teeth they have, how many teeth adults have, how many times a day to brush for and for how long, how many times to floss and parts of a tooth (crown, nerves, gum, root). They also learned about not healthy snacks and healthy snacks and what soda and too much acid (vinegar) does to teeth. We watched a few dental health videos and made marshmallow smiles with partners in class. Lastly we had a presenter come to do activities with us and give us dental health goody bags.
Here is a link to the videos we watched. The children had mentioned wanting to see them again.
