Happy Friday families! I am so thankful to get the chance to talk to you about your wonderful children tomorrow. Together we can help your child be the best they can be. Yesterday was hectic and it wasn't until after carline that I realized I hadn't passed out the fact homework. So it is attached to this email. I also have it in hard copy if you have a conference today.
Valentine's Day:
It’s almost time for Valentine’s Day. If you choose to celebrate it we will be having a card exchange at the very end of the day Tuesday February 14 where your student can bring cards. If you choose to participate your child must bring a card for everybody. You are not required to participate.
Treats have to be in line with the schools health food policy. People have done bags of crackers, trail mix, apples.
Cards cannot be store bought; they must be handmade. A simple card that students can make is to practice symmetry by folding a paper in half and cutting hearts out of it and writing their valentine on it.

Riggs: I am retesting for a 80% of students at 2.5 or 3 (report card numbers) on each Riggs phonogram formation. Most children seem to know the Riggs phonograms but we do need to keep in mind correct letter formation. We are also starting to break down words into chunks by syllabication. We have found the syllables in everyone's first name and last name.
Saxon Math: For Saxon Math this week we measured length with non standard units (linking cubes), we compared lengths and ordered lengths. We also were introduced to writing numbers by their words. We learned how to identify pairs (and because they meanings of of pair, pear and pare.) To practice identifying pairs we played Go Fish. We had two Saxon Math tests and learned how to graph and read a graph.
Core Knowledge: February is Black History Month so we've been talking a lot about Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Jackie Robinson and Ruby Bridges. We watched videos about them and talked about how these people helped to make the United States more fair and more equal.

- Friday, April 21st Clackamas County Recycling Partnership is coming out to us to talk about how to help take care of the Earth. We are also taking a tour of the ReBuilding Center.
- Friday, May 19th field trip to Portland State Learning Gardens and 7 Dees. When we get back we are planting our seedlings in our garden box.
