FRIENDLY REMINDERS:
The front hallway is NOT the place to wait for/gather your child in the afternoons. We need to safely and efficiently evacuate 225 children at the end of the day, through that intersection. You may pick up your child at the side door or with your car in carline. Please help spread the word and encourage others.
NEXT WEEK:
PUBLIC SPEAKING: Book talks begin on Monday. Your child brought home their assignment sheet and schedule. The assignment sheet is also always available under the "Documents and Resources" tab above (you will need to scroll down in the document to March.
Field trip on WEDNESDAY with third grade up to Fort Vancouver. We will be leaving as close to 8:00 as possible; if your child is tardy, he/she may be left behind :(. Students should bring low/no-waste lunch and snack, a water bottle, and outwear appropriate for the forecast. We will return around 1:30.
We are continuing our review and reinforcement and encouragement of manners. Thanks for your support at home, too!
Monday:
Conversations and how to have them. Does your child make at least some eye contact with people they're talking with? Do their bodies and faces face the person they're talking with? Do they speak loudly and clearly enough to be understood? Do they respond when someone speaks to them? Do they continue the conversation back-and-forth a few times?
Tuesday:
Respecting health. Does your child use a kleenex? Does your child know not to pick their nose in public? Does your child reliably wash hands after using the restroom or before preparing food/eating?
Wednesday:
Helping others. Does your child hold doors for others? Does your child offer to help carry things? Does your child notice when others are struggling and offer to help? Does your child understand why they do chores around the house?
Thursday:
Excuse me and I'm sorry. Does your child use words instead of body to get attention or squeeze into spaces? Does your child apologize even if they did something hurtful on accident?
LAST WEEK:
Ask your second grader how they should/should not try to get your attention, and what the difference between "may" and "can" is. Second graders are great at politely asking for what they want; we spend more time on noticing all the times there are in a day to offer verbal gratitude for what others do for us: when someone helps you, gives you something (big or little), visits you or spends time with you, supports and encourages you, does something for you, or shares with you.
