Happy Monday families! We had a lock out today. There was a coyote (not on our grounds but close enough by) that the proper organization (police/animal control?) was trying to take care of it. We stayed inside to keep us safe.
A lockout is if there is a threat/concern outside. We go about our day as usual (continue with class/learning/etc) with the blinds shut and the hallway door open.
A lockdown is where there is a threat/concern inside of the school. This is where we shut blinds, shut the doors, turn off the lights, hide and be very quiet.
Here is what we did last week.
- v, w, , x, y and z.
- About half of the students are flipping b and d so if you could help to practice this at home that would be amazing!
Saxon Math
- Addition Facts: Doubles to 18-Fact practice. The key is for the students to know the facts automatically. They love the rap.
- Covering designs with Pattern Blocks and counting how many blocks it took to fill a shape.
- Ordering numbers to 20 and adding 1 to a number. We have started adding one addition facts. They are also known as count on. 1+1, counting on from 1 is 2, 2+1, counting on from 2 is 3.
- We got to use white boards to write number sentences for some, some went away stories (minus/take away).
Core Knowledge: George Washington Carver
- We planted peanuts.
- We made paint out of sweet potatoes and painted with it.
- We made peanut butter and had it with crackers.
- We made a George Washington Carver puppet.
- We filled out our "We're Nuts About George Washington Carver" poster with information we learned about him.
We also got to watch a fun Chinese acrobat performance on Wednesday. The students were amazed at the feats of strength and flexibility.
