How To Be A Successful Kindergartener!
(What you should know BEFORE the first day of school)
Hygiene:
Working on tying your own shoes.
Working on tucking in your school shirt all the way around.
Working on zipping up zippers.
Know how to properly wash your hands.
Know how to properly use a tissue.
Know how to properly cover your coughs and sneezes.
Know how to use the restroom independently.
Academics:
Identify and name all numbers 0-20.
Know how to count to 20 by 1's.
Know the value of numbers and what order they go in from 0-20.
Identify and name simple geometric shapes: circle, square, triangle, rectangle, hexagon, trapezoid, parallelogram, and rhombus.
Know the terms: most, greatest, largest, fewest, least, smallest.
Know how to match a number to a set of objects.
Know how to write your first name.
Know that letters make sounds.
Social Skills:
Know how to sit quietly in a chair.
Know how to sit criss-cross on your bottom.
Know how to wait patiently until called on and not interrupt.
Know how to ask for help when needed.
Know how to keep body parts under control and to yourself.
Be aware of your surroundings and where your body is and others are.
Know how to share materials.
Know how to join in or ask others to play.
Behavior:
Know how to apologize if you have accidentally hurt someone.
Know how to be honest about an action or situation.
Listen to and follow the directions of any and all teachers.
Know how to use your words to express feelings and emotions.
Know how to find a teacher if a friend is not listening to your words.
