As we get into the homestretch of second grade, please remember:
- Water bottles: it is warming up, and second graders work and play hard. Your second grader is old enough to be responsible for his/her own water bottle, perhaps with a little reminder.
- We will continue to have homework every night: that is part of Cascade Heights. Please be sure to carve out homework time each evening, AND over the weekend to get homework done.
- Check the class calendar regularly here for updates.
- Check the left-hand column for current classroom needs. We need LOTS OF BIG CARDBOARD. We need some help in other areas, as well.
- In case you missed it buried in the Falcon Flash, please click through here to complete the annual Parent Perception Survey. Lay it out bare so we can improve what needs improvement and continue what we're doing right!

We start by multiplying the bottom digit by the ones place, then the bottom digit by the tens place. We add anything we carried. This is why we’ve been practicing our multiplication every night, even if Mr. C didn’t assign it!

Core Knowledge:
We painted our brooches, finished our belts (zosters), made out tunics (chitons), and learned about the golden touch.
Students will wear their tunics for much of the day for most of the rest of the year. They will get better at putting them on, tying their belts, and helping friends who are still struggling. Thank you for letting them struggle through it in the mornings on their own. The tunics help second graders practice struggling through inconveniences and new challenges, finding different ways of doing things, and how to fold laundry (among other things).
Tying simple knots like for the belt of their tunic is a major life skill, and one that is not practical to teach at school; please be sure your child is able to tie their own shoes and tie an overhand knot/bow at the bare minimum.
