Confucianism is more of a philosophy than a religion. It emphasizes goodness, propriety, loyalty, honor, honesty, and respect for ancestors, elders, tradition, and authority.
Second graders learned about philosophy (deep thinking about big questions), and learned about a great philosopher from ancient China: Confucius. We read several books with a philosophical bent, including The Three Questions and Zen Shorts, both by Jon J. Muth. Students enjoyed talking about big questions in small groups, and learned that for many questions, there is no "right" answer.
With your help, students studied and discussed a wise saying from Confucius, and then created their own wise sayings. In class, students learned some watercolor techniques that were applied to scrolls, suitable for display.
