Pony Express

Tomorrow we will be running the Pony Express mail delivery system at CHPCS.  Today, we made our hobby horses and learned about the Pony Express.  Your second grader should be able to tell you how fast it was to get a letter from Sacramento to St. Joseph, Missouri.  your second grader is completing an application for employment at the Pony Express office tonight for homework.  We talked about job applications being something to put lots of work and thought into, and I can't wait to see the careful effort in the applications.

Step one:  Get a paper bag.
Step 2:  Turn it inside out.
Step 3:  Get a friend to help!
Step 4: Persevere, even if it's difficult!
Step 5: Stuff your bag with crumpled up newspaper to form an L shape inside.
Step 6:  Be sure you crumple individual sheets of paper, instead of the whole section, or your horse head will be too heavy!
Step 7:  Bend and fold paper bag into horse head shape.
Step 8:  Insert a bamboo pole into the horse head.
Step 9:  Tape the horse head to the pole.

Step 10:  Decorate and name your horse.
Step 11:  Practice the four gaits of horses: walk, trot, canter, gallop.
Step 12:  Show you are a good horseman or horsewoman and control yourself and your steed.

Yeehaw!
