October Field Trip

We had a great time at Philip Foster Farm on Friday!

We used a cross-cut saw.  Yay, teamwork!
We did laundry the hard way!  Maybe second graders will show their gratitude for technological innovation by helping with modern, easier laundry!

We ground corn off the cob and then ground it into cornmeal.
We used simple machines to make the work of lifting friends easier!
We made tough decisions on what to bring with us to Oregon Territory.
We had great fun with the giant Lincoln Logs (and you will be impressed to know that second graders can be very excited, using large logs, and cause no major injuries!).

We then visited the three museums of the Troutdale Historical Society and got great tours of the railroad depot, a historic house museum, and a barn full of farm equipment.  The ladies were very enthusiastic volunteers and very generous.

And we all got to go in a caboose!

It was a long, interesting day.  Look forward to the Friday, November 22 field trip to Chief Lelooska's Lodge in Ridgefield, Washington!
