Plant Life Cycle

This week, we are looking at various life cycles: bird (chicken), plant (cotyledons), amphibians (frog), and on our Field Trip Friday we will learn more about the salmon life cycle.

The basic life cycle is birth, growth, reproduction, and death.

We came up with tableaux to help us remember the life cycle of a plant:

SEED AND SPROUT (GERMINATION)...
 ...SEEDLING...
...FLOWER AND FRUIT (WITH SEEDS INSIDE!).
 AND AGAIN: SEED...
 ...SPROUT AND SEEDLING...
...FLOWER AND FRUIT (HE IS A BANANA).

We also made diagrams to help us remember the steps of the plant life cycle:
SEED (sort of like birth)...
...GERMINATION (sort of like birth)...
 ...SEEDLING (growth)...
...FLOWER (reproduction)...
 ...FRUIT (reproduction and often death).
At-home connections:  what parts of plants are  you eating?  Sprouts? Roots? Fruit (whether it is fruit fruit, or technically fruit)? Seeds?
