Our Museum: The Process

Wow!  Second grade did an awesome job at their museum's grand opening today.  Second graders went through an inquiry process, which allowed them to practice many important skills and character traits that will get them far in life:
  • Patience
  • Kindness
  • Active listening
  • Planning
  • Compromise
  • Creative problem solving
  • Teamwork
  • Perseverance
  • Changing strategies in the face of adversity
  • Accountability and interdependence
  • AND MORE!
Task: Create a model of an ancient Chinese invention, do some research on that invention, and present, in written and oral form, your creation.
Step 1: Brainstorm!  What do we already know?  What do we wonder?  How can we make a model?  What will we need?

Step 2: Research.  What important information do we need to share?
Step 3: Advertise.  No one will come unless they know the details and are persuaded to come!
Step 4:  Create.  Design and build a model with whatever you can think of and find.

Step 5:  Write!  How do we communicate with others when we are not there to talk with them?
Step 6:  Practice!  The more we practice something, the better it gets and therefore the more confident we feel.
Step 7:  Set up.  Make sure everything looks good.  This is attention to details: are we putting our best foot forward?

Step 8: Present!  We practice speaking clearly, with eye contact and good body language.
