Simple Machines Workshop!

Thank you to Mr. Maguire, Mrs. Boswell, Mrs. Silva, Mrs. McDonald, and Mr. Detter for coming in and helping supervise the learning!  It would not have gone as smoothly, or been as purposeful without your help.

Second graders rotated through seven stations to further explore how simple machines work in real life.

1.  Hammers and nails (I told second graders that they're not allowed to graduate second grade until they show me that they can pull a nail correctly with a hammer; you would be surprised how many students struggle with this lever concept).

2.  Driving screws with electric drills.

 3.  Drilling holes with eggbeater drills and a bit-and-brace.
 4.  Using screwdrivers at the Take-it-apart Tub!

 5.  Smoothing and carving wood with chisels and planes.

 6.  Making wheeled vehicles with Legos.
7.  And they made pinwheels that came home!

Thank you again for the help today!  Next unit...Digestive system and nutrition!
